Meet Surianne, singer, songwriter, musician and creative artist, friend of Amber Law
Surianne is one of those rare people you meet who leave a lasting impression on you. She radiates positivity, always greeting you with a smile even on a cloudy day and emits a very pure energy of genuine love and passion for the work she does in the world and all the people she selflessly serves by it. I have known Surianne for the better part of three decades and what is truly admirable about her is that she has used her music and creativity as a platform, or a conduit to promote love and hope and to support worthy charitable causes and people in crisis. That is, to foster connection, facilitate healing and do good in the world.
‘La Niña del Sur’ (Girl of the South) as she is affectionately know, is a woman who not only inspires others but she also lifts up and empowers other creatives too. An artist herself, rather than shrink away from supporting other artists to focus solely on her own career/ journey, she takes ‘pit stops’ and injects time, resources and energy in lifting others, with a collaborative rather than competitive approach to life, another quality I greatly admire in her.
Surianne has for example, delivered songwriting sessions for teenage pop artist ‘Elisha Lang’ semifinalist La Voz (The Voice) Kids, Fenomeno Fan and supported musically as well as taken an active role for YouTube sensation Martina D ‘Antiochia, for episodes of her highly popular channel ‘La Diversion de Martina’ (over 4 million subscribers).
Her selfless service of others has been recognised and celebrated in the awards she has been given over the years and in the success she has enjoyed in being invited to elevated platforms as a singer, songwriter and performer. Surianne has performed at festivals and prestigious events such as the International Jazz Festival Gibraltar, Trade Union Congress in London celebrating International Woman’s Day, The Princes Trust Business Awards, The London International Music Show, The Hard Rock Cafe, The Beverley Folk Festival, Nottingham Riverside Festival, O2 Carling Academy, La Catarina (Marbella), TRE Telethon and at the exclusive ‘Cena Benefica 2016' in aid of Gipsy Cannis in Marbella. She has formed part of the line up for ‘A Future That Works 2012’ rally in Hyde Park alongside Natalie McCool, The Dhol Blasters, performing to a crowd over 100,000 people!
Surianne has also shared the stage with the likes of Suzanne Vega, Rozalla, Larissa Eddie, Yaz, Juan Peña, Laura Rubio, Nate James, Steve Balsamo and Breed77. She has been UK MP Diane Abbott’s artist preference for the parliamentary music competition ‘Rock The House 2013’. In April 2019, Surianne was invited to perform as a guest artist, alongside singer Yazz (The Only Way is Up), for the E17 BOY Productions young talent singer songwriter competition in Marbella in association with Warrior Film Promotions and Warrior Global Media.
Its no surprise then that in 2017, Surianne was honoured as one of seven most successful women of Gibraltar by The Gibraltar Olive Press (https://issuu.com/theolivepress/docs/1-24_43f3e5362582d6/7). Her song ´We are as one´, co written with producer Terry Shaughnessy (The Universal / Hair of the Dog Studios) in April 2017, has been the official anthem for the United Nationalities Marbella Summit on numerous occasions. ´We are as One’, celebrates unity in diversity, embraces our differences and inspires an invitation to positive change. ´We are as One’ plays as part of the soundtrack for popular TV programme MarbellaNOW TV, online and on Spanish TV Channel RTV Marbella.
In 2016, Surianne collaborated with producer Mikki Nilsen (Gecko Studios/ Loyal Enemy) releasing ‘Hold On’ as an independent YouTube music video single. The song is about hope and quickly become radio favourite of the Mi Marbella FM playlist. This same year, Surianne celebrated success with ‘Amor’, (love) a song co-written with J2Productions (Producer & co writer of Shakira's Dare ‘La La La’ and Brazil FIFA World Cup Version 2014) and released as 2nd single by breakthrough Latino artist Jesse Medeles www.youtube.com/watch?v=jatM3GYn_n8 (over a million views). As you can appreciate, Surianne’s songwriting is very much a projection of and inspired by, her own personal values.
In 2011, Surianne independently released charity single ‘Stronger Than Before’ entering the iTunes UK Top 100 Latino songs at #56 in aid of Hestia Housing and Support, a London based charity supporting adults and children in crisis that named Surianne Ambassador as a result of her philanthropic work.
At present Surianne, founder of The Busy Bee Club works as a creative music workshop facilitator. She had previously worked as a music workshop facilitator and mentor for 4+ years in Marbella, Spain, nurturing and inspiring creative passion in young children through LAPA (Laude Academy of Performing Arts) - an academy that she co-founded alongside other creatives. She has been a core team member for online music platform ‘On Song International’, volunteering to present, film and produce an online series that showcased and featured independent artists form around the globe.
True to her love of charity and volunteer work for people who are going through challenging or traumatic circumstances, Surianne provided family creative workshops at the Cancer Relief Centre in Gibraltar and wrote and produced a concept album for their HEARTS therapy sessions, improving the quality of life of so many families. She has also delivered workshops in music and social media for the Gibraltar Cultural Services as part of their Youth Arts Jamboree program.
Surianne is the present title holder and winner of the 2021 Rock on the Rock Singer Songwriter Competition. She works closely with ‘Levanter Breeze’, one of the finest Jazz fusion bands from Gibraltar, currently working on the recording of an album that will showcase a selection of her best original songs with the band set to be released in 2022.
